It’s a wet Monday evening here in KL, and I have just finished squeezing the last item into my suitcase, bursting at its seams. I don’t know about you – but I always have a hard time trying to figure out what to pack as I leave our comfortable tropical climate.
I am excited about joining everyone at the GSBS 2014 in Mexico City in a few days time. The vibe, the spirit, and the passion that is the Global Social Business Summit, is a pretty remarkable experience.
I remember my first GSBS experience back in 2012, in Vienna, Austria. The concept of social business was so new to me back then, and like an eager child, I lapped it all up. What an enriching journey it has been since then.
A month later in December 2012, Prof. Muhammad Yunus arrived in KL, and joined us at the Youth Social Business Summit, organized by myHarapan.
It was a humbling experience meeting Nobel Peace Prize winner and Father of Social Business, Prof. Yunus himself.
In 2013, the GSBS – for the first time since its inception – left Europe, made its way to Asia, and called Kuala Lumpur home. myHarapan was a co-organiser of GSBS 2013, alongside our friends at the Yunus Centre and the Grameen Creative Lab.
During the opening of GSBS 2013 in KL, I stood at the back of the packed hall taking it all in. When the drums beat, the hall was flushed red, and I actually cried tears of joy! Yes lah – don’t laugh. Months and months of hard work, and it all came down to this superb event – how can I not be emotional?
So, viva la Mexico!
We leave for Mexico tonight and I know that GSBS 2014 will rock, and I am super duper excited in anticipation of the adventures in the week ahead- the things I will be learning, the people I will be meeting, and all the tacos I will be eating!
