The most awaited Global Social Business Summit was opened by Prof. Yunus with his speech to all social businesses and social entrepreneurs in different parts of world. Through his speech. It somehow reminded me of the very first intention of mine to joined Little Marios which happened 2 years ago when I was in second years of university. I didn’t even know what social business was then!
“Be good, do good” was all I had thought about. I wanted to contribute my efforts and knowledge to the community and I knew this project is going to benefit the society, and that’s the reason why we did not give up till today. As Prof. Yunus mentioned in his speech, do something to boost up your selflessness, you will lose nothing! People transforming themselves will contribute to transformation of communities and ultimately your countries, and eventually the world. And yes! We are on the way.
During the focus group session, I’ve selected the topic of “engaging companies into social business” which I aimed to gain insights from the discussion on how to obtain funding from corporate in social business. From the three successful cases presented, the cooperation and collaboration of corporates and social business are complementing each other, the financial issues often faced by social business model in startup stage can be solved by the funding from corporates. Meanwhile, most of the social issue cannot be solved by corporates with the allocated CSR funding can be actually solved through the social business model. Traditional businesses are profit maximization. The existence of social businesses aim to solve problems by using business model. That’s how we can see the importance of these two forms of business to support each other in creating a better world.
